High Adventure Camps Committee
The High Adventure Camps Committee’s purpose is to promote and nurture the participation and interaction by Grand Canyon Council Scouts and Adults at BSA High Adventure Bases and Camps for backcountry treks, other outdoor experiences, training, and personal enrichment.
Committee Goals
- Support an annual GCC contingent to Philmont Scout Ranch due to its proximity to Arizona for a minimum of a 7-day, 9-day, or 12-day, backcountry trek.
- Track and maintain a list of Units and Individual Scouts/Scouters who can provide information to interested parties; i.e., Philmont Ambassadors, Master’s Track holders, etc.
- Promote the active participation of adult Scouters in participating in training programs offered at the Philmont Training Center, including how to earn the Philmont Masters Track Award.
- Support an annual alternative contingent on a rotating basis to the high adventure camps at Florida Sea Base, Northern Tier, and the Bechtel Summit. This would offer a diversity of high-adventure base experiences to scouts and adults.
- Support an annual Spade Ranch Program to invigorate the use of GCC Camps and offerings
- Plan and schedule at convenient dates and times, various trainings that are necessary for High Adventure outings; such as Wilderness First Aid, and CPR. (plus more)
- Sponsor and hold an annual High Adventure Camps Committee event to market, and provide, information and updates to the GCC units on BSA High Adventure Bases and how to effectively plan and carry out a unit-sponsored trip. Such an event would provide information on the camps, strategies to plan, and discussions of cost and other questions, including various Awards such as the Triple Crown and Grand Slam of High Adventure Awards.
- Make speakers available to District Roundtables, Baden Powell University, and local units to promote the various BSA High Adventure Camps and create plans and support your plan to execute a successful trip.
